Musselman's return to the NBA as coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves marks a milestone in a career beset by controversy. As a college coach, his University of Minnesota squad and Big Ten rival Ohio State engaged in perhaps the ugliest brawl in college basketball history, for which Musselman received much of the blame. Ultimately, it led to his resignation and a series of head coaching stints in the pro circuit, culminating in his appointment to the Timberwolves' post. Generally, this work is less concerned with the building of an expansion franchise than a coach's compulsion to right a career derailed by one infamous incident. How he succeeded is an extraordinary story.
